Congress website hacked, Profile of Sonia Gandhi defaced
On the day when the Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi is celebrating her 65th birthday, hackers broke into the official website of India’s ruling Congress party official website and defaced the profile of Ms. Sonia Gandhi. The profile of the party president was replaced with text having sexual innuendo which included a reference to a Pakistan based e-mail address. However, it is still unknown as to whom the hackers are.
Kolkata hospital fire: 55 dead
55 people have been confirmed dead as fire broke out in the wee hours of the morning in the AMRI Hospital located in the Dhakuria area of south Kolkata. The death toll may go up as there are more people said to be trapped inside. The fire engulfed 4 floors of one of the buildings of the 161-beded hospital.

Outsourcing of visa related work to be stopped
A circular has been issued by the foreign ministry last week to all Indian missions by asking them not to outsource any visa and passport related work to ant foreign firm. It’s believed that this move had been taken as a result of huge number of complaints being received from NRIs and others who are seeking Indian visas. The Foreign minister have even warned of disciplinary actions on a letter issued on October 20 addressed to all Indian ambassadors and high commissioners, in case they fail to ensure transparency in all financial transactions related to visa work.

MERGER TO CREATE REGIONS’ LARGEST LEGAL BUSINESS
The leading Russian firm Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners (EPAP) is reported to acquire 100-lawyer pan-Commonwealth of Independent States practice Magisters. The merger of the two firms will create the largest-ever law firm merger.
The combined firm will work under the banner of EPAP and will comprise of 27 partners and more than 300 lawyers.
The combined firm is reported to emerge as one step ahead of any national or international law firm in size, market penetration and regional coverage in Russia and the CIS.
It is highly notable that EPAP is established in Moscow, Russia and Magisters originally in Ukraine in 1997 wherein after it expanded aggressively throughout the Confederation of the Independent States.
