REPEAL IN INDIAN CYBER LAWS SAY EXPERTS
The Indian Cyber Law is under the Information Technology (IT) ACT 2000 drastically amended in 2008 as Information Technology Amendment Act 2008 (IT Act 2008). This amendment is made to strengthen the Indian Cyber Law, but instead it has made the law ineffective. The issues like E-commerce, E-governance, Cyber Security are vague and practically not able to cater to the needs. Most of the cyber crimes under the amended act are bail able offenses providing a safe heaven for computer criminals. The experts feel that a repeal in Indian Cyber Law by making separate and “Independent Legislation” for the above topics would be good.
SMS, EMAILS UNDER AMBIT OF AUSTRALIAN CYBER LAW
The new provision in the Australian Cyber law directs the phone companies and internet carriers to preserve text messages (SMS) and the emails containing sensitive information and submit them to the Australian Intelligence and Police Agencies for investigation purposes. Investigators asked a carrier to preserve the messages, which could otherwise have been destroyed, under an informal arrangement. Agencies have urged the government to give them legal power to prevent crucial information being destroyed.
CYBER LAW EXTENDS TO CURB ZOMBIE ATTACKS
The “zombie” cookies that re-spawn even when a user tries to delete them. The websites can store more information directly on your computer, which can be beneficial in many ways. These zombie cookies raise significant privacy concerns because a user cannot effectively clear out his cookies and prevent advertising companies from tracking his online activities. The law suits were filed on the basis of these zombie cookies claiming to be a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1030, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (“CFAA”), by accessing computers without authorization or in excess of that authorization. Now, zombie attacks can be considered as offence under US CYBER LAWS.

Apple to pay Nokia royalties in settlement of patent disputes
Nokia the Finnish telecommunications company yesterday announced that it has entered into an agreement with Apple for settling all patent disputes between the two and by which Apple has to pay royalties to Nokia according to the terms of the agreement. Companies agreed to withdraw all complaints filed against each other with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) and end 46 ongoing patent infringement disputes in various countries around the world.

Microsoft loses in patent fight
Microsoft, on Thursday lost a hard-fought patent battle in the U.S. Supreme Court while trying to prevent $290 million jury verdict against it. Justice Sonia Sotomayor, held for a unanimous court that Microsoft (alleged infringers) who raised the defense that the patent at issue is invalid must prove it by clear and convincing piece of evidence.
