Wikileaks founder faces extradition charges
Julian Assange is facing extradition charges as London court will rule on Wednesday whether WikiLeaks’ founder, who angered the US government by publishing thousands of secret diplomatic memos, can be extradited from Britain to Sweden for questioning over alleged sexual crimes. With its finances under pressure and some of its biggest revelations already public, WikiLeaks may not have the strength to survive if Britain’s high court judge decides on Wednesday in favour of a Swedish request to extradite Julian Assange to face trial over rape allegations, some experts argue.
MF Global Under FBI Scrutiny
MF Global, (MF) a Wall Street brokerage firm led by former New Jersey governor and Goldman Sachs CEO Jon Corzine, is under the investigation of FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) and other federal regulators including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. The investigators are investigating how $600 million of MF Global Customers money had gone missing. Later this weekend, MF Global had tried selling the firm to Interactive Brokers. However this move failed, due to the missing of funds and led the firm into bankruptcy. MF Global has broken the governmental and CME rules which clearly direct firms not to mix the firm’s assets and the customers funds. Craig Donohue, CEO of CME Group said that CME is still investigating into the matter to check the extend of the violation. He also announced that floor brokers and traders guaranteed by MF Global have been banned from the CME Trading Platform. It is hinted that MF Global got involved in some risky bets owing huge amounts of money to the European Government. When the bets went sour, MF Global had tapped its client’s money to elevate its financial position. This is in clear violation of CME rules and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission rules on such bets.
Apple And Google Controversy Over Android
Recently apple equipped its I phones with faster chips and better cameras seeking to set its hand set apart from the Googles android smart phones with weather predictions and voice recognition technology. There has also been problem regarding patents claims over the android technology. Google claims that Microsoft and apple have joined hands against it and but Android on fire. More than 550,000 Android devices are activated everyday through a network of 39 manufacturers and 231 carriers. Android and other platforms are competing hard against each other, and that’s yielding cool new devices and amazing mobile apps for consumers. But Android’s success has yielded something else: a hostile, organized campaign against Android by Microsoft, Oracle, Apple and other companies, waged through bogus patents. They’re doing this by banding together to acquire Novell’s old patents and Nortel’s old patents , to make sure Google didn’t get them; seeking $15 licensing fees for every Android device; making it more expensive for phone manufacturers to license Android than Windows Phone 7; Patents were meant to encourage innovation, but lately they are being used as a weapon to stop it. A smart phone might involve as many as 250,000 (largely questionable) patent claims, and the competitors want to impose a tax for these dubious patents that makes Android devices more expensive for consumers. They want to make it harder for manufacturers to sell Android devices. Instead of competing by building new features or devices, they are fighting through litigation.
