Mississippi Court to decide whether fertilized egg is a human

A court in Mississippi, USA will decide on Tuesday whether a fertilized egg can be considered as a human being. If so, then Mississippi will be the first state in US to define a fertilized egg as a person, a controversial concept aimed at outlawing abortion, some types of birth control and infertility methods that result in the loss of embryos. The so-called “personhood amendment” to the state constitution represents a twist in strategy for anti-abortion efforts, which aims to overturn the decision of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision making abortion legal.

Us commander to resign due to comments made by him

A Senior US commander  named Maj Gen Peter Fuller, who was the deputy commander of Nato’s Afghan training mission,has been dismissed after he made aome offensive comments about Afghanistan’s leaders.However,it still have to be decided whether he will reassign or retire. He was not the first one to face these kind of charges ,however. Gen Stanley McChrystal, who was commander of US forces in Afghanistan in June 2010  resigned after making critical comments in the Rolling Stone magazine about  some senior members of the Obama administration.

Anti Gang Law

The police service of Trinidad and Tobago has benefited with this law passed by the legislature. After the bill has passed Attorney General Ramlogan gave the statement criticizing the law and said that the population can expect a more effective utilization of this law and former AG Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj said that it is not necessary to arrest persons in the state of emergency. He said that there are lots of mistakes in this law and some amendments are necessary in this law.

Bail granted to Ramalinga Raju in satyam scam

Ramalinga_RajuSupreme Court granted bail to B. Ramalinga Raju and his brother MD, B. Rama raju in the infamous satyam scam the bail was granted by a bench comprising Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Deepak Misra.  Earlier they have been charged of defrauding the funds and cheating the investor in the company and misrepresenting the figures of the company.

Military against PC for Women

The Army has reiterated to the defence ministry that permanent commission (PC) to women officers should be restricted to only the legal (judge advocate general) and education (Army Education Corps) wings as of now, signalling that Indian armed forces do not want women even to serve in all non-combat and support arms on a permanent basis. This came after defence minister A K Antony earlier this year asked Army, Navy and IAF chiefs to re-examine granting PC to women officers in other non-combat streams as well. It is well know that the Indian armed forces suffers from acute shortage of officers, but instead of the curbing of the shortage by inducting of women in the other non-combat and combat fields of the armed forces they are restricting women from getting permanent commission for some unknown reason said a woman officers.

Greece to have coalition Government soon

Soon, Greece will have a new coalition government comprising out of an agreement the ruling Pasok party and the opposition New Democracy party. However, the coalition government will have George Papendrou as its leader as he refused to step down as the prime minister. Despite winning a confidence vote on Saturday   morning, he has struggled to form a temporary coalition government to back the controversial EU bailout package. The opposition party seems to be clearly unhappy with this as leader Antonis Samaras stated that it’s better for the current prime minister to resign in order to ‘save the economy’. The two sides have mutually agreed to take the country through an election process after the bailout deal implements and are supposed to meet today to work out the details of the new coalition government. However, as declared by the finance ministry, February 19 is the most suitable date for the election.

New Law on Apartments

With the rapidly increase of pollution and demand for the apartments in Jaipur, the state government is planning to formulate a new policy Apartment Act to safeguard the interest of buyers and developers. The state doesn’t have any policy to safeguard the interest of purchaser and developers and with the drawback of this around 20000 new apartments are under construction in the State Capital itself. P.K. Deb, additional chief secretary, urban developing and housing said that this law will safeguard the interest of the purchaser and develop a system to address their grievances.  In 2009 the state government had drafted a policy and sent it to the center for the approval and after approval from the cabinet it was referred to the center. But the Union government had made some observations and sent it back to the State government for the amendments.
