A Senior US commander named Maj Gen Peter Fuller, who was the deputy commander of Nato’s Afghan training mission,has been dismissed after he made aome offensive comments about Afghanistan’s leaders.However,it still have to be decided whether he will reassign or retire. He was not the first one to face these kind of charges ,however. Gen Stanley McChrystal, who was commander of US forces in Afghanistan in June 2010 resigned after making critical comments in the Rolling Stone magazine about some senior members of the Obama administration.
The head of US forces in Afghanistan, Gen John Allen says that Gen Fuller’s comments do not correctly depicts the US-Afghan relationship. He was quoted saying that “The Afghan people are honourable people, and comments such as these will not keep us from accomplishing our most critical and shared mission – bringing about a stable, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan. Gen Fuller spoke to Politico on Thursday where he described the Afghan President Hamid Karzai as an unimpressive public speaker and also said that he wishes the afghans get a president who is more articulate in public .
He commented that he tried to make Afghan generals understand that despite facing huge economic turmoils at home, the US was involved in Afghanistan to provide them security
As reported by politics, Fuller was irritated while referring to a recent comment made by Mr Karzai – that Afghanistan would side with Pakistan if the country ever went to war with the US. He commented, ‘Why don’t you just poke me in the eye with a needle! You’ve got to be kidding me. I’m sorry, we just gave you $11.6bn (£7.2bn) and now you’re telling me, ‘I don’t really care?’. However,Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that the Afghan president’s statement has been misinterpreted by the media.
He also said that afghanistan needs to understand the sacrifices of US for Afghanistan.He compared the idea of Nato training in afghanistan with fishing by saying that the afghans are not happy to learn fishing ang getting the fish from US while learning fishing,they also want more fish.
