UNPAID BLOOD DONATIONS RISE MOST IN INDIA: WHO
In one of the global data presented by the World Health Organization (WHO), India recorded an astonishing increase in unpaid blood donations from 3.6 million to 4.6 million and in major countries there has been an increase of 10 per cent between 2007 and 2008. The report also suggests that there has been a remarkable increase of more than 50 per cent between 2002 and 2008.

Amnesty International on Friday asked Saudi Arabia, to put a halt to executions in the country. AI said that in most cases there is often a lack of basic procedural due process. AI cited an alarming increase in executions in 2011, according to AI report in most of the cases they rely solely on the basis of confessions obtained under duress or deception.
Croatia to join European Union in 2013
European Commission (EC) yesterday officially recommended Croatia for accession to the European Union (EU) and that Croatia will become the 28th member of the EU on July 1, 2013. EC President Jose Barroso said that Croatia has made enough improvements in their final four chapters Competition, Judiciary and Fundamental Rights, Financial and Budgetary Provisions and Other Issues, to allow closure of the chapters and ultimate accession. He also added that this is important step forward by Croatia towards membership and it will also be a signal to the rest of South Eastern Europe and credible enlargement policy remains our most important tool for strengthening mutual stability and prosperity in South Eastern Europe. Jadranka Kosor Croatia’s Prime Minister expressed her delight at the announcement.
Syria crackdown inhumane -Turkish Prime Minister
Turkey’s prime minister has condemned Syria’s crackdown on anti-government protesters as “inhumane” and says Ankara could support a UN resolution against Damascus.
The semi-official Anatolia news agency quoted Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying in an interview on ATV television late on Thursday that some images coming out of Syria were “unpalatable”.
