Congressman Elijah Cummings nephew killed in Virginia shooting

Christopher Cummings, the nephew of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland died in a shooting in Norfolk, Virginia.

In May 2011 Christopher Cummings, who was a rising juniElijah Cummingsor with a promising future, had tried to chase down a would-be robber, but the threats apparently followed the incident weeks after.

It was reported that, on Friday, 10th of June 2011, nephew’s roommate was also critically wounded in the shooting which took place at an apartment near Old Dominion University.

John. R. Broderick, University President, wrote a letter to the campus community, in which he acknowledged that these rising crimes has been a recent concern near the school, and thereby they have hired additional officers, enhanced lightening in the garages, and installed more blue light emergency phones and also the work on significantly increased use of video surveillance and a campus wide review of lighting is under way.

Also he promised that, they will continue to urge the city officials and landlords on additional safety measures for the off-campus neighbourhood where numerous crimes had taken place.

Christopher Cumming’s father is a survivor of the September 11 attack on the Pentagon.
