UPHAAR VICTIMS STILL AWAITS JUSTICE
On June 13th, 1997, during the first day of matinee show of the blockbuster Hindi film BORDER, a fire spread due to faulty transformer which snuffled 59 lives. Fourteen years later families of 59 persons who lost their lives still await justice. An emotional prayer meeting was held outside the now sealed movie hall in south Delhi’s Yusuf Sarai by the Association of the Victims of the Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT) on the occasion of the tragedy’s fourteenth anniversary.
2G Spectrum- SC issues notices to CBI, next hearing on June 20
The Supreme Court on the petition filed DMK MP Kanimozhi and Kalaingar Television MD Sharad Kumar seeking bail in the 2G Spectrum case today issued notices to the CBI. A Vacation Bench directed the CBI to file its response to the petitions by June 20. The court also asked the CBI to let the court know where the bribe money is and the amount of loss caused by the petitioners to the national exchequer.

RIL acquires Bharti stake in AXA Joint Ventures
Reliance Industries by agreeing to buy Bharti’s 74 per cent stake in its life insurance business Bharti-Axa has made its entry into the insurance sector. Bharti has exited the business in both the life and general insurance arms. The decision came as a next step of Bharti’s strategy of focusing in the energies and financial resources in businesses where it is making a deeper impact in India and overseas.
Government asks forces to open more doors for women
The Armed forces were directed by the Government to examine granting Permanent Commission (PC) in the additional streams other than the legal and educational fields already eligible for, to the women officers.
