2G Spectrum- SC issues notices to CBI, next hearing on June 20

2G scam caseThe Supreme Court on the petition filed DMK MP Kanimozhi and Kalaingar Television MD Sharad Kumar seeking bail in the 2G Spectrum case today issued notices to the CBI. A Vacation Bench directed the CBI to file its response to the petitions by June 20. The court also asked the CBI to let the court know where the bribe money is and the amount of loss caused by the petitioners to the national exchequer.

The allegations against the petitioners are that Rs 214 crore were transferred by Shahid Balwa to Kalaingar TV channel allegedly under the instructions of former telecom minister A Raja and it was a bribe money paid by Mr Balwa to obtain 2G Spectrum license. The Supreme Court will now hear the bail application of petitioners on June 20. According to the the CAG report it was a scam in which the country suffered an estimated loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore.
The petitioners through their current petition has challenged the Delhi High Court order dated June 8, 2011 vide which there bail applications were dismissed. The apex court has directed the CBI to file its return reply within three days informing the court where the bribe money is. Money is presently lying with the company of Karim Morani, an accused in the case and if the CBI informs the court that money is with Morani then he has to deposit it in the court.
