On the day when the Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi is celebrating her 65th birthday, hackers broke into the official website of India’s ruling Congress party official website and defaced the profile of Ms. Sonia Gandhi. The profile of the party president was replaced with text having sexual innuendo which included a reference to a Pakistan based e-mail address. However, it is still unknown as to whom the hackers are.

Kolkata hospital fire: 55 dead
55 people have been confirmed dead as fire broke out in the wee hours of the morning in the AMRI Hospital located in the Dhakuria area of south Kolkata. The death toll may go up as there are more people said to be trapped inside. The fire engulfed 4 floors of one of the buildings of the 161-beded hospital.

The Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal has come down with an iron hand on the regulation of content by Google and its services and in addition to this, the recent notice served by the Income –Tax Department towards giving final touches to a tax demand from Google India seems to have put the company in a tight spot.
US citizen sentenced to 2 years in Thailand for defamation
Joe Gordon, 55 year old Thai born US citizen was sentenced to two and a half years in prison by a court in Thailand for posting excerpts of the biography of King Bhumibol Adulyadej which has been banned locally. He has been detained since his arrest in May. The American pleaded guilty in October and due to this the Criminal Court reduced his sentence to two and a half years from five years.
HC notice to Centre and TRAI regarding per day SMS cap
The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre as well as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to reply to the petition filed by the NGO – Telecom Watchdog, challenging the Central Government’s move limiting the number of SMS per day per SIM to 200. The reply is to be submitted within two weeks and the matter has been posted for next hearing on January 18.
