IS CYBER BULLING ILLEGAL

cyber bulling The Cyber Bullying in on the rise with technology being used to harass or target a person by death threats or coercion. In the United States, there are many victims of cyber bullying and there was a need to make a law to control cyber bullying. A bill was introduced in the US in the House of  Representatives last year that “ transmit in interstate or foreign commerce any communication, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person, using electronic means to support severe, repeated, and hostile behaviour.” Anyone found guilty of this crime could face a fine or a prison term of up to two years.

REPEAL IN INDIAN CYBER LAWS SAY EXPERTS

Cyber LawThe Indian Cyber Law is under the Information Technology (IT) ACT 2000 drastically amended in 2008 as Information Technology Amendment Act 2008 (IT Act 2008). This amendment is made to strengthen the  Indian Cyber Law, but instead it has made the law ineffective. The issues like E-commerce, E-governance, Cyber Security are vague and practically not able to cater to the needs. Most of the cyber crimes under the amended act are bail able offenses  providing a safe heaven  for computer criminals. The experts feel that a repeal in Indian Cyber Law by making separate  and “Independent Legislation” for the above topics would be good.
