SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE STRETCHES TO CURB ILLICIT ACTIVITIES

illicit-social-networkingThe popular social networking site Facebook has initiated three legal suits with a view to prevent illicit activities. The two suits were filed in an action to spamming and phishing activities taking place on its website. The third suit was filed against a marketing company which was promoting sending of spam mails.

The marketing company had encouraged the sending of spam emails in turn for some offers which are deceptive. The customers had to send spam mails to various people to be eligible for some offers.  The claim made by Facebook was that the companies marketed products which were not in use.

In some cases, the names and information of many users was passed on to various marketing, advertisement companies though tough privacy settings were activated by the users.

The social networking site held that there was a violation of acts like CAN-SPAM ACT and some other federal laws of the US. The site also alleged that its terms of service were violated.

All three suits were filed in the Federal Court of the US. The networking site which has become very popular one in the recent times has been stretching its arms towards the law for justice.
