Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant Controversy over

legal_newsIn recent years nuclear energy or generation of electricity through nuclear power plant has been appreciated over thermal power plants. And due to rising demands of electricity in the country the National Power Commission of India has decided to set up a nuclear power plant for domestic use in Koodankulam, Chennai. But this project is facing serious agitation. Voluntary Peoples Movement Against Nuclear Energy (V.M.A.N.E) is carrying out large scale agitation against establishment of this power plant at Koodankulam

They are not satisfied with the safety measures and the assurances provided by the government regarding establishment of this power plant. And as a result Voluntary Peoples Movement against Nuclear Energy has filed a PIL against establishment of this nuclear power plant. And staying of this project keeping in mind the cost benefit analysis of the project. The population fears as this establishment might take the shape of fukshiyama nuclear reactor accident in Japan and Chernobyl nuclear accident in Ukrain.Also they have even learnt from Bhopal gas tragedy. And if the radiation leaks it can take heavy toll of life.

Villagers and fisher men are on hunger strike against establishment of this power plant and this movement is being also supported by Mr. Vaiko chief of MDMK political party is Tamil Nadu, according to him it should be the primary objective of any political party to take care of its citizens and that is why he is going to launch a campaign for stopping the work at KNPP.
