Arizona filed a lawsuit to determine the status of marijuana law

The state of Arizona has moved to the federal court seeking a declaratory judgment on determining the legal status of medical marijuana. It was regarding the state’s controversial medical marijuana law. The issue rose when the US attorney for the district of Arizona wrote a letter to the state’s governor stating that marijuana is still illegal under the federal law and anyone who manufactures or distributes it would be prosecuted under the federal laws. The letter also said even though the consumers might have clearly followed the state laws regarding the marijuana but are not protected under the federal law.
