In an interesting set of events, ten new planets have been discovered by an international team consisting of scientists from the University of Oxford. Release by the University of Oxford on Wednesday stated amongst these ten is one orbiting a star perhaps only a few tens of millions years old, twin Neptune sized planets, and a rare Saturn-like world.

Convection, Rotation and Transits (CoRoT) space telescope was used to detect the planets operated by the French agency CNES.

Planets outside our solar system can be discovered using it as when they (exoplanets) ‘transit’ (that is pass in front of their stars).

According to Dr Suzanne Aigrain of Oxford University’s Department of Physics CoRoT-18b is special as its star might be quite young. She further added saying that finding planets around young stars are interesting because planets evolve very fast initially, before settling into a much steadier pattern of evolution.
