Mumbai Crime Branch to file charge sheet in Dey murder case

Dey murderThe Mumbai police’s crime branch which is probing the murder of Jyotirmoy Dey, who was a senior journalist with the English daily Mid Day, is set file charge sheets against 10 of the 11 accused persons. Earlier Jigna Vora, a crime reporter was arrested by the crime branch on charges of conspiracy. She is said to have parted with vital information which directly related to the Dey murder case.

In a twist to the case a close aide of Jigna Vora, Murtaza Diwan surrendered three mobile phones and a memory card that were given to him for safekeeping. He surrendered these items in the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court. He did so because he was anticipating the crime branch to implicate him for the recovery of these items. The prosecution has asked the court to extend the custody of Jigna Vora up to December 5 to enable the crime branch to further investigate.
