Toddler man shot dead in Philadelphia

A shooting at a rural home in suburban Philadelphia killed a 2-year child and a young man from Massachusetts and critically wounded three others. A manhunt is underway for the shooters.

People who live near Renninger Road and Hoffmansville Road in the Bechtelsville section of Douglass Township were told to stay inside their homes, as Police from more than a half-dozen municipalities investigated a multiple shooting that left this Montgomery on the edge.

Kevin R. Steelle First assistant district Attorney identified the dead as 43 year old man Joseph Shay of Yarmouth, Massachusetts and 2-year old Gregory Erdmann of Fall River, mass. The boy’s mother, 37 year old Kathryn Erdmann, was also shot in the head and was hospitalized in critical conditions. Also critically injured were the homeowners, 64 year old Paul shay and 58 year old Monica Shay, of New York City.

No suspect was in custody and police didn’t find any description of the shooters, Steele said. The survivors were unable to speak to the investigators, he said.

There had been launched a murder investigation by Montgomery county district Attorney and Douglass Township Police Chief. Authorities combed the area by helicopter and with the help of police dogs and SWAT team. The police said the officials had also been finding for more evidences and any additional victims, but none was found.

Steele earlier provoked and encouraged the residents to assist the police in the search.
