Widow of al Qaeda leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri sentenced in Iraq

terrorist campAfter being convicted of involvement in terrorism, the widow of an al Qaeda in Iraq leader has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Hasna Ali was the wife of Abu Ayyub al-Masri. He was a military leader of al Qaeda in Iraq and was killed in a joined Iraqi-U.S operation in April 2010, along with Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, who was the leader of Islamic State of Iraq, an umbrella group that includes all Qaeda in Iraq. It was reported by Abdul Sattar al-Berqdar, a spokesman of Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, that Hasna Ali from Yemen, was sentenced in an Iraqi Court.

Abu Ayyub al-MasriWhen they were killed more than a year ago, then commander of U.S. Forces-Iraq Gen. Raymond Odierno called it “potentially the most significant blow to al Qaeda in Iraq since the beginning of the insurgency”.
