The new draft guideline says, any doctor who suspects child abuse must raise the alarm immediately and tell the parents what action they will be taking. Doctors acting reasonably in response to concerns about abuse or neglect will not be subject to censure. The General Medical Council is holding a public consultation on the draft.

If the reason cited for the procedure is ‘failure of contraceptive, the Government wants to prevent the women who are more than ten weeks pregnant, from undergoing an abortion.

A man has been convicted on charges of rape, cruelty and harassment against his wife. The court held that even though there is no penal provision for charging a man with the rape of his wife, the accused and victim were first cousins and had committed rape on her even before marriage, making it “incestuous”.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of Kenya on Wednesday selected five candidates to serve on the nation’s first Supreme Court. The JSC panel selected one woman and four men after a week long interview of 25 candidates. Commission submitted the list of selected candidates to Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki for their appointment.
US lawmakers file suit against Obama for continuing actions in Libya
A group of 10 US congressmen yesterday filed a lawsuit against the President Barack Obama for circumventing the authority of the Congress by increasing military strikes against Libya. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Walter Jones (R-NC) representatives of the group told the press about the filing of the suit in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
