Sardarpura Riot Case

Sardarpura_Riot_CaseOn Wednesday 31 of the 73 accused was convicted by the special court in Gujarat in the Sardarpura post Godhra riot case. In this case 33 people of the minority community was burnt alive by some peoples at the time of riot.

42 accused out of 73 are acquitted by the court, as 11 were freed due to the lack of the evidences against them and rest 31 were freed as they were given a benefit of doubt and asked for a solvency bond of Rs. 25,000. The special court also directed them not to leave the country without taking permission from the court and the 31 convicted has been charged by the court on murder, attempt to murder, rioting, criminal conspiracy and other sections of the IPC.

This case was happened at the time of the Godhra train burning case, in this case a 33 people, including 22 women were charred to death by the strong mob on February 28 and March 1, 2002, as during the riots time these people of minority group was in a shelter in a house owned by one of Ibrahim Sheikh as these people was in fear because of the riot. However the mob torched the whole house after pouring petrol and in the result these much people burdened alive.

These all 76 accused was arrested by the police, in which two died during the trial, while one was a juvenile, against whom, trial was on a juvenile court. The court had framed a charge on all these people in June, 2009 and initiated trial in the case.

This trial was on 112 witnesses who were examined by the court, out which 157 name was there in the charge sheet. These names includes 20 doctors, 17 inquest witnesses, 40 riot victims, 20 police and 15 others.
