On Friday more than 20 countries, including the United States declared Qadhafi regime to be illegitimate and formally recognized Libya’s main opposition group to be the country’s government.
The countries present there said they would deal with Libya’s main opposition party-the National Transitional Council as the legitimate governing authority in Libya, until an interim authority is established.
Sources report that the diplomatic recognition of the main opposition party means that it will be able to secure the more than $30 billion in Qadhafi regime assets that are frozen in American banks.
The Fridays decision which took place in Turkey, Istanbul, indicates a strong support for the TNC and that Qadhafi’s time is over. The meeting was also presided over by members of NATO, the EU and the Arab League.
