TEN SUPPORTERS OF RAMDEV ARRESTED

baba-ramdev- picTen supporters of yoga guru Baba Ramdev have been arrested on charges of rioting, causing damages to public property and obstructing public servants from discharging their duties while they were being evicted from the Ramlila grounds.

The police reported that the accused indulged in brickbat, and throwing of flower pots and objects from the stage as projectiles targeting the police, some of them instigated the crowd and obstructed them from discharging their official duties.

Among the accused, five belong to Haryana, two belong to Delhi, and one each from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Assam. The police have approached the television news channel that covered the entire drama which took place at the Ramlila ground as well as they have approached a private security agency that had installed close circuit television cameras on the Ramlila ground to obtain copies of the footage. The police will examine the video recordings to prepare a report on the midnight crackdown as sought by the Supreme Court.

The police officials said that they were forced to carry out the eviction process in the night itself as the situation had worsen and as a large number of people were heading towards the capital for satyagraha. Hence to protect the peace and security they had to carry on with the eviction process.
