Police arrest 48 advocates for road roko agitation

Advocates arrested48 advocates, who were affiliated to the Human Rights Protection Movement, were arrested by the police for staging a road roko agitation in front of the District Court Complex on Uniform School Education (USE) issue.

The Movement’s District Convener Nallakaman led the agitators, who demanded for the implementation of ‘Samacheer Kalvi’ (Uniform School Education) system which has been put on held by the new AIADMK Government and shouted slogans urging the State Government to introduce the USE system from the current academic year itself.

The DMK Government had previously introduced a USE system which was scheduled to be implemented for classes II to V and VII to X from the current academic year while the new AIADMK Government decided to put it on hold stating that the present form of USE would not improve the quality of education.

It was again made clear by the Government that they were not against USE and a committee of experts would be appointed to improve the quality of education through USE.
