Lawyers for ex-Soviet officer say political pressure by US led to unfair extradition

Layer USLawyers for an ex-Soviet officer extradited to the United States to face conspiracy charges in federal court say the case should be thrown out. They argued that it’s because of US used high political pressure to get Thailand to release him. The paper which was filed on Tuesday purely says that it was brought because of purely political reasons against Viktor Bout. The lawyers strongly said that the U.S. Army contractors had used aircraft owned by companies associated with Bout to supply U.S. troops in Iraq. The schedule of trial of Viktor Bout is to be held in this October. The charge on him was he conspired to sell weapons to a terrorist organization. He was extradited from Thailand last year. He was arrested in March 2008 in a Bangkok hotel. He has pleaded not guilty. The Government of Russian complained that his extradition was unlawful and political.

Supreme Court grant bail to Binayak Sen’s associate in sedition case

Piyush GuhaThe Supreme Court on May 31st granted bail to Piyush Guha, an associate of noted civil rights activist Binayak Sen, who was also awarded life imprisonment in the sedition case along with the latter. The bench consists of Justices G S Singhvi and C K Prasad ordered the release of Guha on bail after hearing his counsel Mr. Prashant Bhushan who contended that the main accused Dr Sen had already been released on bail under the orders of the apex court.

Woman takes attacker’s penis to the Police Station

Sex Crime SceneA 40 year old Bangladeshi woman cut off a man’s penis during an attempt on rape by a man of 40 years married and father of five. The woman took the attacker’s penis to the police station as evidence. The woman is married and mother of three. The police officers said that she was attacked while sleeping in her shanty in Jhalakathi district which is 200Km away from south of Dhaka. And the man had been harassing her for six months. The cut-off penis has been kept at the police station and the rape suspect was undergoing treatment in hospital. The police said that “We will arrest him once his condition gets better”
