Nun fighting for tribal rights killed

Valsa_hailing_killed52-year-old Valsa hailing from Vazhakala at Kakkanad in Ernakulam District was found dead in the Jharkhand. Valsa was working for the upliftment of tribal’s in the Jharkhand areas. Her family claims that she has been getting frequent death threats from the mining mafia located nearby. Also, naxal pamphlets were recovered from the site of the death, which is indicative of the naxal involvement in this particular death. However, the police consider this to have been a measure to divert the investigation process.

Valsa has been an active social worker, who was deeply involved with the tribal’s and their demands for rights. According to sources, the silent clashes between her and the mining mafia has been going on for quite some time.

Her younger brother Babu reported that she had fought with the mining mafia in the Jharkhand area for the protection of the rights of the tribal’s, which in turn had made her the victim of plenty of death threat. He said the family was shocked by the death Valsa had spoken to her elder sister over the phone on Tuesday evening and discussed some problems faced by her. The Police have started the enquiry into this matter.
