CYBER DEFAMATION LAW CURTAILS FREEDOM OF INTERNET USERS IN KOREA

In the recent times, the cyber legislation in Korea has taken a new shape with the introduction of a new law in regard to online defamation. The online defamation has become popular in the virtual world. The internet has provided freedom to all the users by allowing them to post any information across the globe.

The law restricts the user’s freedom granted by the internet. This has led to temporary shutdown of google, to implement the restrictions imposed under the new law. The google has restored now and has restricted certain areas for the Korea users.

The new law prohibits any comments that could damage the reputation of any person. The internet users have to register the national identification number allotted to them by the government when registering with most large websites in Korea.

The feature of anonymity is no longer available to the Korean internet users since the new law mandates to provide full name when any comment is passed.  The law primarily aims to prevent any anonymous defamation online.
