CBI AGAINST KANIMOZHI BAIL IN 2G SPECTRUM

KanimozhiThe CBI on Friday stood affirmed on its opinion that the Rs.200 crore paid to the Kaliignar TV channel was part of bribe in lieu of the 2G spectrum licence given to DB Realty. They opposed the bail pleas of DMK MP Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar and its affidavit before the SC denied their claims of it being a loan.

It apprised the SC about a letter written to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) asking it to attach Rs. 200 crore, which is now apparently with Shahid Balwa whole promoted the DB Realty         group.

The CBI supported the trials court’s and high court’s decision and opined that the duo were key conspirators in the scam and could tamper with the evidence and influence witnesses if released on bail.

The SC will be examining the CBI’s response along with the bail plea on the 20th of June, 2011.

The duo has been in jail since the 20th of May after the special court of CBI dismissed their bail pleas.

On June 13th, the SC asked the CBI to explain where the Rs. 200 crore was and sought for the status of the case before the trial court.

A special bench, headed by Justice GS Singhvi will hear the bail pleas and will be assisted by Justice BS Chauhan.
