A GRAND FAREWELL WAS ORGANISED IN THE LAWNS OF THE SC ON THURSDAY TO FELICITATE AND HONOUR THE OUTGOING JUDGE OF SC, JUSTICE B. SUDARSHAN REDDY. JUSTICE REDDY WILL BE KNOWN FOR HIS LANDMARK JUDGMENTS IN MANY BRANCHES OF LAW LIKE CRIMINAL JURISPRUDENCE, CONSTITUTION, TAXATION, SERVICE LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS.
FEW DAYS BEFORE HIS RETIREMENT, JUSTICE REDDY HAD GIVEN A JUDGMENT CRITICISING THE UNION GOVERNEMENT ON ITS SLACKNESS IN PROBING INTO THE BLACK MONEY STASHED AWAY IN FOREIGN BANKS OF INDIANS AND ORDERED THE CONSTITUTION OF A SPECIAL INVESTIGATION TEAM UNDER THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF RETIRED SC JUDGE B.P.JEEVAN REDDY TO LOOK INTO THE MATTER AND TO TAKE ALL STEPS NECESSARY WHICH COULD ASSIST IN BRINGING BACK THE BLACK MONEY.
IN ANOTHER INSTANCE HIS BENCH HAD STAYED ATHE GRANT OF BAIL FOR THE PUNE-BASED NUSINESSMAN HASAN ALI AND PAVED THE WAY FOR HIS CUSTODIAL INTERROGATION.HASAN ALI IS CHARGED WITH MONEY LAUNDERING AND TAX EVASION.
IN CONTINUANCE WITH THE RESPECT FOR THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS WHICH HE HAS, JUSTICE REDDY DECLARED THE APPOINTMENT OF THE TRIBAL YOUTH AS SPOS/SALWA JUDUM BY THE CHATTISGARH GOVERNMENT TO FIGHT THE MAOISTS, ‘AS ILLEGAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL’.
Justice Reddy was part of the Constitution Bench that disposed of the case in the dispute between the Ambani brothers over gas allocation.
B. Sudershan Reddy, B.A., LL.B., was born on July 8, 1946. He was enrolled as AN Advocate at
Hyderabad with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh on December 27, 1971. He has practised in Writ and Civil matters in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. He worked as A Government Pleader.in the High Court during 1988‐90. He also worked as AN Additional Standing Counsel for Central Government for a period of 6 months during 1990. He worked as A Legal Adviser and Standing Counsel for Osmania University. He was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on May 2, 1995. He was appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on 05.12.2005. Appointed as a Judge of Supreme Court of India on 12.01.2007
