Google bus begins service in West Bengal

Google BusGoogle’s noble initiative, the Google Internet Bus service has expanded to the West Bengal also. Google began the Google bus service in the year 2009 and so far it has covered 11 states and 130 cities, travelling 50,000 km. the Google Bus is equipped with computers and mobile terminals, all connected to the Internet.

The bus will start its service in Kolkatta. From Kolkata, the bus will move on to Uluberia on December 2, Haldia on December 8, Kharagpur on December 12, Purulia on December 21, Asansol on December 24, Durgapur on December 30, Behrampore on January 6 and Chandannagar on January 11. According to Vinay Goel, director, Google India, what is aimed out of this intiative is to extend the reach of internet to the common man. According to statistics, even today, there are people in the remote village who haven’t even heard of internet and is unaware about the multiple avenues it provides. Google Internet Bus will try to minimize this gap. To encounter the language problem, that might act as a barrier in this initiative, a team of trained people from Bengal will be accompanying the Google Bus. Vinay Goel also said that the Google bus is accessible to anyone and Google is now trying to work in close association with schools in order to tap the potential of the young minds.
