The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo said that there is evidence that Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi rape as a new aspect of repression. He also added that he has got evidence that Col Gaddafi ordered the rape of hundreds of women as a weapon against rebel forces.
Last month, Mr Moreno-Ocampo had asked ICC judges to approve arrest warrants for Col Gaddafi, Saif al-Islam, and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Sanussi. Who were accused of committing two categories of crimes against humanity – murder and persecution He also added that they bore the greatest responsibility for the 500 and 700 who are thought to have been killed, in the attacks on civilians at the beginning of the anti-government uprising in February. The Libyan government so far does not recognize the ICC’s jurisdiction.
