New FIR in Sadiq Jamal encounter case

Sadiq-Jamal encounterThe police sources stated  that, on the directive of Gujarat High Court, the crime branch of police, more than eight years after the fake encounter killing of Sadiq Jamal in the city, lodged a new Fir in the case and immediately transferred it to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Under various sections of IPC for murder, abetment of murder and kidnapping, FIR was lodged by crime branch DCP Mayur Chavda.

The High Court recently ordered lodging of fresh FIR and completing the inquiry in six months time on the plea of Jamal’s brother Shabbir Jamal Mehtar.

Later Shabbir lodged a complaint with crime branch naming 17 police officers of Gujarat and Maharashtra in the case.

On 13th of January 2003, Jamal was gunned down by city police in Naroda area and the police then claimed he was a terrorist on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi to avenge the 2002 anti- Muslim riots.
