FAMILY OF A MURDER ACCUSE SEEKS SUICIDE PERMISSION

A family of a murder accused has been ostracized by the entire village for the alleged involvement of their son in the murder of a youth from their own village. They are under constant threats from the villagers.

Due to the threat for past one and a half years, Baldev singh the head of the family has written to the president seeking permission for the whole family to commit suicide. He has also written to Haryana chief minister and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi in this regard, sources said.

This all began in January 2010, when Baldev Singh’s younger son Harpreet was arrested in the alleged involvement in the murder of the youth of the same village. He is among five arrested by Yamunanagar police and is currently lodged in Ambala jail.

The family consists of 12 members and all of them are being threatened  by the villagers. The family has requested them to wait till the judgment of the case comes and if its against their son then they themselves will leave the village. But the cries of the family are not being heard and they are threatened.

The family tried to seek police protection but in vain, nobody seems to be hearing their plea for justice and help. They therefore have written to the president for permission to commit suicide.

When contacted, Yamunanagar SP Mitesh Jain confirmed receipt of a complaint from Baldev Singh. “We have assured them security for the entire family. At the same time, we have marked an enquiry into the allegations about refusal to act by policemen. With regard to social boycott, we have asked them to approach the deputy commissioner,” Jain said.
