EMERGENCE OF CYBER LAW IN ETHIOPIA

Cyber_LawEthiopia has been alarmed with the increase in the cyber-crime attacks in the country. The need for felt to introduce a regulation or law that could counter cyber crimes and protect the financial institutions in Ethiopia. The cyber law has emerged as a law which counters the cyber related issues and protect the cyberspace of the country.

The legislators are in the process of drafting the cyber related law which is expected to the ready by next year.  The financial experts opine that the financial and banking institutions should be protected from attacks like phishing   etc.  to prevent the collapse of the financial sector

The Code of Criminal Law in Ethiopia provides protection to paper based transactions from frauds, but does not have any provisions for paperless transactions. The paper based documents, agreements and other traditional forms of evidence is only accepted. The concept of digital evidence is necessary in this technological world.

The Data Disaster Prevention and Recovery Management (DDPRM) has been introduced as a step to protect data and communication system. Hence, the cyber law which encompasses various legal issues of communication and technology has to take a final shape to prevent cyber-attacks.
