SUPREME COURT SLAMS STAY ON C J DINAKARAN’S IMPEACHMENT

Sikkim High Court Chief Justice PD DINAKARAN had moved the Supreme Court stay of impeachment proceedings initiated against him for alleged misconduct and corruption. He is being investigated by a three-member committee, appointed by the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, vice-president, Hamid Ansari.

Justice Dinakaran challenged the proceedings before a three- member Rajya Sabha –appointed inquiry panel which has been hearing the charges of the alleged land grabbing and possession of wealth disproportionate to his known source of income. He had sought quashing of the order of the panel which has refused his plea for the recusal of senior advocate P R Rao on the ground that he was biased against him.

The panel headed by Justice Aftab Alam of the Supreme Court, also includes Karnataka High Court chief justice J S Khehar, besides Rao.

The Apex Court refused to stay impeachment proceedings against him. The court has ordered a change of jurist members in the Rajya Sabha appointed committee. The senior advocate P R Rao will be replaced by another jurist. This will delay the whole impeachment process.
