In the recent times, the US witnessed a horrifying attack of cyber war.  A lot of high level websites were put down by a massive cyber-attack which was beyond imagination. The experts have traced a malware worm and virus which was used the attacker to execute the attack. The virus and worm had infected by the system running Windows Operating System. It was reported that these were sent by the way of an email attachment. When the email attachment was opened by the user, the virus and worms in the attachments were programmed in such a way that they had sent requests every second to the remote system.

When the bandwidth of the system is exceeded, the system is crashed since it cannot take anymore. This is called denial of service attack. It is a kind of cyber crime which the attacker commits by flooding the system with the excess requests. This attack is generally executed on 2 or 3 systems, but here it was executed on many high level websites with most of them being government websites. The CERT-US (Computer Emergency Response Team in US) has been advising various federal companies and agencies to take adequate security measures to reduce the impact of such attacks.

The Cyber laws of US have provisions relating to denial of service attacks. The attackers can also be charged with the provisions of Computer Fraud and Abuse Act for denial of service attacks. The denials
