Cuban court convicts 15 Government officials in airline corruption

officials arrested for corruptionLaw forced its way through corruption in Cuba as the Cuban court convicted fourteen government officials and businessmen and a Chilean entrepreneur for corruption and bribery involving the state owned airline and a tourism agency.

According to a notice published in the state media Marcel Marambio, a Chilean businessman with close links with the Communist government was sentenced in absentia to fifteen years in prison for bribery, fraud and falsification of documents. He was also the president of Sol Y Son, a tourism agency jointly owned by the Cuban state and Chilean investors.

Earlier this year, his brother Max, a close friend of Fidel Castro was sentenced in absentia in a separate corruption case trial.

The 14 Cubans, all employed by Cubana de Aviacion airline or Sol Y Son were sentenced to between three and ten years of imprisonment as they had received cash bribes and personal perks but had not provided information regarding it in exchange.

Since President Raul Castro assumed the presidency, a number of corruption cases have come to the fore front!
