Godhra panel expressed discontent over the absence of the ex-Minister

Godhra The absence of the former Urban Development Minister, I.K. Jadeja, from cross-examination has invited strong discontentment from the G.T. Nanavati-Akshay Mehta judicial inquiry commission which was appointed to probe the 2002 Godhra train massacre and the post-Godhra communal riots in Gujarat. The reason for the absence of Mr. Jadeja was dismissed by Justice Nanavati as unreasonable and he said that now the dates of hearing would be fixed according to the convenience of the Jan Sangharsh Manch which was unduly put to trouble due to the “last-minute decision” of the Minister to absent himself.

India asks Facebook, Google to screen online content

Kapil SibalIndian Union Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal has asked the various web companies and Social networking websites to prescreen user content from India before putting it up online. This has come in the wake of some social networking sites carrying defamatory content about Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Minister held a meeting with top officials of the Indian units of Yahoo, Facebook, Google and Microsoft and asked them to devise a mechanism where their staff would screen and filter and check for defamatory content before uploading any content online. Indian IT Minister Kapil Sibal showed them a website that was posted in the name of a religious site but which turned out to be a pornographic site. Kapil Sibal also said that for security reasons the Indian Intelligent Agencies would also want to monitor these websites and Social Networks.

Mumbai Crime Branch to file charge sheet in Dey murder case

Dey murderThe Mumbai police’s crime branch which is probing the murder of Jyotirmoy Dey, who was a senior journalist with the English daily Mid Day, is set file charge sheets against 10 of the 11 accused persons. Earlier Jigna Vora, a crime reporter was arrested by the crime branch on charges of conspiracy. She is said to have parted with vital information which directly related to the Dey murder case.

Anna accuses Rahul of watering down the Lokpal Bill draft

Anna-Hazare and Rahul GandhiThe anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has held the intervention by Rahul Gandhi responsible for the exclusion of the lower bureaucracy from the ambit of the Lokpal bill draft. Anna Hazare has accused Mr. Gandhi of meddling with the Parliamentary Committee which has allegedly caused the Committee to reverse its earlier decision to include Group C staff under the ambit of Lokpal. He has admitted that he does not possess any evidence to prove this allegation against Rahul Gandhi but also stated that there cannot be smoke without any fire when asked by the media.

Moroccan electionOn Tuesday the Morocco’s Justice and Development Party (PJD) became the 2nd moderate Islamic to lead a North African government since the start of the Arab Spring uprisings after it won the parliamentary elections in Morocco. PIL filed by Kashmiri pandits against Arundhati Roy

Arundhati RoyAn association of the displaced Kashmiris filed PIL against noted writer Arundhati Roy for her derogatory remarks on Kashmir issue. Earlier Arundhati Roy had expressed in New York that the people of Kashmir have right to self determination. The PIL was filed by Veer Saraf, Ajay Bhat and Vijay Kashkari, all members of the Routes, an organization of Kashmir Pandits based in Jammu and Delhi. The PIL has sought the impounding of the passport of arundhati Roy and taking actions against Arundhati Roy’s for giving statements on Kashmir in and outside India.
