CALIFORNIA’S NEW LAW TO CURB CYBER BULLYING

A new law has taken shape in California to penalize those who try to harm others by using fake profiles and email addresses with a fine up to $ 1000 and one year in jail. The cyber bullying which has been a popular topic mostly on the social networking sites is considered to be more destructive than physical violence.

The cyber bullying is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass or target another person. The internet has facilitated communication across the world with its seamless boundaries. The impersonation has also redefined its outlook and transformed itself into e-impersonation which is affecting children, adults worldwide.

Cyber bullying has garnered attention national wide in the past years, with many teens committing suicide because of insensitive teasing online by their peers. The new law aims to prevent cyber bullying and provide protection to the victims of cyber bullying. The victims also often find it difficult to report bullying incidents.

It is also needed to provide leading safety and crisis support to the victims of bullying. The biggest challenge is that the internet allows the features of anonymity which the attackers use as a mask to hide their identity. The new law provides the school administrators the authority to discipline students for bullying others offline or online.
