Court hears California animal welfare law

animal_welfare_lawCalifornia law is going to ban the slaughter of the animals that cannot walk. This law bans the sale, receipt and slaughter of the downed livestock. This law also prohibits the dragging and pushing of the animals with heavy equipments. This law was not in an effect because the National Meat Association, based in Oakland, had won an injunction in 2009.

President of Humane Society of the U.S. Mr. Wayne Pacelle said that this is a case of great consequences and the authorities should have to take aggressive action to stop the cruelty on the animals. He said that this animal welfare law will help to protect the animals from the cruelty of the people on them. He said that Congress is in the grip of the agribusiness lobby and if we have to wait until Congress acts we’ll be waiting for a very long time to bring relief to these animals and to secure the food supply for health and well-being of consumers.

National Meat Association is getting support from the Obama administration and other industrial groups while on the other side Humane Society and other rights groups are against this National Meet association as they have views that this association is doing cruelty with the animals and that’s not right. Now on Wednesday Supreme Court will hear oral arguments from both the sides.
