ARRESTING INTERNET ACCESS IN PIRACY ISSUES – SOLUTION OR NOT

piracy-issuesThe implementation of Three Strikes Law is proposed in various countries.  As the name suggests the internet access is disabled to any person who receives three warning to stop the download of any pirated content. It is aimed to avoid the further occurrence of piracy attacks. To achieve this internet connection is cut off.

The question arises can it be used to curb piracy attacks?

No, it cannot completely address the piracy issues.  The blocking of Internet Access of any person alone cannot resolve piracy issues. The reason is that if a person is denied access to the internet of one ISP (Internet Service Provider), alternate internet connections are available from other ISP’s.

The other grey area would be it disables access to the internet after three warnings, but on the first warning itself. This can mean there is an opportunity for piracy even after the first and second warnings. It would also conflict with the presumption of innocence in various courts and many legal systems

So arresting internet access to address piracy issue can be a good solution if the defects are treated to the extent necessary.
